# Markdown for agents

> Answer requests that prefer text/markdown with a Markdown version of your HTML pages, converted at the edge.

With `markdown.enabled`, when a request prefers `text/markdown` to `text/html` in its `Accept` header and the origin answers an HTML page with 200, the edge converts it to Markdown as it serves it. Agents get the same content with far fewer tokens; the cached page is not changed.

The Markdown response carries:

| Header | Value |
|---|---|
| `Content-Type` | `text/markdown; charset=utf-8` |
| `Vary` | `Accept` |
| `x-markdown-tokens` | Approximate number of tokens. |

Pages larger than 2 MiB are served as HTML.

```sh
openwaf-cloud ctl zones set example.com ai_agents.markdown.enabled=true --reason "Markdown for agents"
curl -s https://example.com/pricing -H "Accept: text/markdown"
```

In the dashboard: **AI Crawl Control → Overview → Settings → Markdown for agents → Convert HTML to Markdown**. In MCP: `ai_agents_settings` with `"patch": {"markdown": {"enabled": true}}`.
